SelfEMDR The Complete Therapeutic Approach At Last Eliminate Painful Emotions For A Lifetime Simple Easy Effective Desmond Long MA Michael G Bannert Books Reviews

  • Comes Highly Recommended
I had never heard of EMDR but when I found out it is endorsed by the US Military I decided to get this book.
It’s easy to read, and the author doesn’t mince words. Because the instructions are simple and straightforward I am confident I can use this.
It is impossible to ignore the many examples and case-studies about actual real healing success. I found this a fascinating book to read.
  • This book achieves what it sets out to do, which is to explain in a concise and easy way the benefits and merits of Self-EMDR. After having witnessed first hand, many children using the rocking method to soothe themselves when upset, or simply wanting some down time, I could relate to what the book's aims are. Also having undergone a stressful situation 2 years ago, which left me with a lot of inner sadness. I read this book recently and tried Self EMDR as suggested in this book, and found it successful.
  • I am a survivor of a cult. I found this EMDR just what I needed and look forward to the healing. Thank you for
    all your hard work.
  • This appears to be a simple and efficient technique. More so than other ways I have tried in order to deal with some stuff. The 'sanctuary' tip is appealing and worth trying.
  • Great, well written book .......Simple.....Easy.....Effective. A must to read.
  • My goodness, this is terrible and potentially dangerous. EMDR is good stuff, but this book endorses a technique that includes verbal self abuse, takes many applications, and could lead to suicide. A complete waste of money, don't buy this. A real EMDR session would be more fruitful and less dangerous. Reads like a bad informercial. Much better choice is the book "Tapping In" which does not include abusive and risky text.
  • This is...interesting. I've read every book about EMDR that has been published so I have a pretty good understanding about EMDR. I haven't attempted this yet as I am currently about to begin treatment for EMDR. I would like to point out that the author didn't mention anything about the "Butterfly Hug" method which you can Google.

My therapist said some of the things I wanted to treat with EMDR, she didn't feel like they fell under the EMDR solution. However in this book I feel like I could talk them through in my own plan and find a "Happy Place" I guess. I will have to try that after I get through with with treatment.
  • Self-EMDR is a simple and powerful way to eliminate deep emotional traumas. The book is a well written step-by-step guide
that really worked for me. I read the entire book to get the over view and then followed the basic method as described in Chapter 2. It takes a bit
of practice and can say that each set did reduce the emotional intensity to my surprise. I was not able to go from "10" being the worst emotion
to "0" right away, but the author had covered that. At some points I had to stop and go back and do it again. I did four five-minute sets on the
issue. The key is to have the courage to continue and go deeply into the pain.

As you will read, the author gives many real life examples from his clinical practice that I found very interesting and helpful. Go to the
index and look at the list of issues and use that example as a starting point. In Chapter 5, the author introduces "Postive Insights" which reframes
the experience with a postive outcome. This really made a big difference for me, again it takes practice. Use it and completely banish the bad emotions, it really works.
